SAN ANGELO, Texas - SVSU had five athletes
running at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field
Championships this weekend, and the Cardinals will be bringing a
couple All-American honors back to University Center.
As a team, the Cardinals currently sit in 31st place with 5.50
points, mostly thanks to Eltaro Hooper (Ypsilanti, Mich./Lincoln)
and his 4.50 points in the high jump, which he cleared a height of
2.10 meters in. His clearance at that height was good for a fourth
place finish and an All-American nod. Hooper also was in the finals
for the triple jump, but failed to record a legal jump.
Josh Koglin (Kimball, Mich./Marysville) earned SVSU’s only
other point in the meet after his eighth place finish in the hammer
throw, with a toss of 58.62 meters, also good for an All-American
honor.
Jesse Evans (Cheboygan, Mich.) finished in ninth place in the
steeplechase, with a time of 9:20.80.
Sam Tilmon (Romulus, Mich.) qualified for nationals in the 110
meter hurdles, but fell short of advancing to the finals, as he ran
a 14.52 second prelim time and finished seventh in his heat, 14th
overall in the event.
Charlie Richards (Goodrich, Mich.) qualified for nationals in the
800 meter run, but also fell short of advancing to the finals of
the event, placing fourth in his heat with a time of 1:52.59, which
was good for 13th place overall in the event.
***UPDATE***
Saginaw Valley State placed 35th overall at the NCAA Division II
