KANSAS CITY – The Saginaw Valley State University men's soccer program had four named to the United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division II All-Midwest Region team. Junior goalkeeper Nick Kay, senior midfielder Anthony Waller, and senior forward Jonny Monney were all named Second Team, and senior forward Jayden Cameron was named Third Team.
Kay played every minute in goal for the Cardinals as they made a run all the way to the NCAA DII Quarterfinals. He finished the year with a 13-6-2 record allowing 19 goals on 83 shots faced for a goals against average of 0.89 and a save percentage of .771. Kay also had eight shutouts on the year.
Waller had four assists in his senior year starting in 15 of the 19 games he played. He was a key piece in the Cardinal midfield. One of his four assists led to the game-winning goal, and another came from a corner kick as Waller was pivotal in set pieces for SVSU all season.
Monney was second on the team in goals and points scoring seven goals and adding an assist for 15 points. He finished his senior season with 33 shots, 16 on goal for a shooting percentage of .212 and a shots on goal percentage of .485. Monney sits fourth in program history with 28, fifth in points with 62, and second in game-winning goals with 11, one behind the leader.
Cameron led the Cardinals in the 2024 season with career high nine goals, three assists, and career high 21 points. He also led in shots with 54 and shots on goal with 33 finishing the year with a shooting percentage of .167 and a shots on goal percentage of .611.
SVSU men's soccer shared the GLIAC regular season title and won the GLIAC tournament with Cameron scoring the game-winning-goal in the semifinals and the tying goal in the championships, where they went on to win in PKs.
The team hosted the first three rounds of the NCAA DII Championships along with their Quarterfinal round, making it to the Quarterfinals for the first time since 2012.
