Demorow’s Late Tally Clinches Share of GLIAC Regular Season Title

CALEDONIA, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University men's soccer program clinched a share of the GLIAC regular season title Wednesday night with a 1-0 win over Davenport. The Cardinals (11-4-0, 8-3-0 GLIAC) have won seven straight and have secured a bye to the semifinal round of the GLIAC tournament after defeating the Panthers (8-5-4, 5-3-3 GLIAC). SVSU can clinch the title outright with a Roosevelt loss or draw against Davenport on Friday or a Cardinal win or draw over the Lakers on Sunday.

Saginaw Valley outshot Davenport 17-11 and doubled them in shots on goal 4-2. The game was scoreless through 72 minutes until Alex Demorow netted his first goal of his career in 73rd minute. A pass from Jonny Monney led Demorow to the left side. He took one dribble and a few steps before launching a long shot to the far-right side of the net to give SVSU the 1-0 lead.

Nick Kay made two saves in his sixth shutout of the year, tying the most in his career after six in 2022. Demorow scored on his only shot on goal out of two attempts. Jayden Cameron led in opportunities with three shots, two on goal. Elliot Nottoli and Monney both took three shots as well. Anta Berkeley took two shots and had one on target. Abe Freye, Evan Baker, Ryan Bovee, and Oleksiy Kharko all had one shot as well. In the seven-game winning streak, the Cardinals have not allowed more than four shots on goal with most matches allowing two or less and have four shutouts in the seven-game stretch.
