ST. CLOUD, Minn. – The Saginaw Valley State University men's soccer program traveled to Minnesota Sunday afternoon to face St. Cloud State. The Cardinals (8-4-0, 5-3-0 GLIAC) defeated the Huskies (7-6-0, 5-4-0 GLIAC) for the second time in the last 10 days with a 2-1 victory. The four-game win streak started last Friday with a 3-0 victory over SCSU and also started a four-game losing streak for the Huskies.

SVSU scored both goals in the first half as Jayden Cameron tallied his fifth of the year and Mzo Mthembu scored his team-leading sixth. Elliot Nottoli had a career-high six shots and one on goal as SVSU outshot St. Cloud State 18-12 and had the edge in shots on goal 6-4. Cameron had three shots, two on goal as well. Nick Kay started in goal stopping two of the three shots he faced on route to his eighth win of the year.

Cameron opened the scoring in the 13th minute as a cross from Felix Tom was headed by Alex Demorow to the left side of the box. Cameron, who started the play with a pass to Tom, had an easy tap in for the first goal of the match. In the 42nd minute, the Cardinals doubled their advantage with a wonderful set piece play. Anthony Waller set up for the free kick outside of the 18-yard box on the right side. Instead of a cross deep into dangerous territory, the ball came across the top of the box low and found Mthembu in a soft spot as he delivered a strike into the back of the net.

The Huskies dug a deeper hole as Yanis Smeg received a red card in the 61st minute to put themselves down a man on the field. However, the offensive pressure came from St. Cloud State as in the 80th minute, they cut into the lead as Eduardo Balduino scored his second of the season, assisted by Ziad Kaddah and Mahmood Maldonado. SCSU couldn't find the back of the net in the remaining 10 minutes afterwards and fell 2-1.
