UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University men's soccer team tied the number seven ranked team in Gannon University Friday afternoon at home with a final score of 1-1.

Jonathan Monney opened the scoring early in the first half. A penalty kick opportunity in the seventh minute gave the Cardinals lead goal scorer his fifth goal of the season. Monney led the team in shots with four and shots on goal with two. SVSU nearly doubled the Golden Knights in shots as they attempted 17 to Gannon's nine. The Cardinals also led shots on goal five to four.

Saginaw Valley took the 1-0 lead into halftime. However, Gannon knotted it up early in the second half. In the 61st minute, Tinashe Katsande headed a cross past Cardinal goaltender Jack Simms. Simms saved three of the four shots he faced.

The game got more physical as time ticked down. Eight yellow cards were dealt out throughout the contest. A red card in the 70th minute left SVSU down a man on the field, but their offensive pressure continued. A couple of chances late came up empty as the clock hit zero and the match concluded. Saginaw Valley moves to 3-2-2 on the year and prepares for a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) match at home against Davenport University on Sunday. Kickoff is set for 3:00 p.m. at Robert C. Braddock Field.
