SVSU Men’s Soccer Chosen to Repeat as GLIAC Champions in Preseason Poll

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) announced the 2023 Men's Soccer Preseason Coaches Poll on Thursday (August 24) afternoon.

The Saginaw Valley State University men's soccer team was picked to repeat as the conference champion after receiving five of the six first-place votes to top the standings with 25 points.

"It's always nice to see our program ranked #1 in the preseason poll," said SVSU men's soccer head coach Louis Barrow. "However, it does not mean a thing. We have to go out this season and earn that #1 spot, again. We are very happy with how the squad is shaping up. We are excited by our new players; they have started very bright and are definitely the caliber of players needed to continue what we started last season."

The Cardinals finished four points ahead of second-place Parkside who was given the final first-place vote in the poll. Davenport finished third with 17 points. Purdue Northwest (11), Northern Michigan (9), and St. Cloud State (7) were all within two points of one another to fall in the final three spots of the poll.

The SVSU men's soccer team begins the 2023 campaign on the road at Illinois-Springfield on Thursday, August 31 at 6:00 p.m. Visit the men's soccer schedule page for the full list of matchups slated for the regular season.
