MIDLAND, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University men's soccer team took advantage of two own goals by the hosts and settled for a 3-3 non-conference draw at Northwood University on Sunday at Hantz Stadium.
SVSU generated offense all afternoon with 19 shots against Northwood (1-0-3 overall), which mustered just eight.
How it Happened:
- The Cardinals took their first lead of the game, 2-1, in the 49th minute as Jonathan Monney took a feed from Elliot Nottoli and turned his defender around in one motion to put a left-footed shot inside the far post.
- Three minutes and 5 seconds later, SVSU padded its lead to 3-1 as a NU defender mistakenly headed the ball past his keeper.
- Seamus Quinn scored a pair of goals 8:28 apart in the 60th and 68th minutes to spark NU's comeback and forge the tie.
- Neil Langan put the Thunderwolves ahead 1-0 on a pass from Quinn in the 23rd minute before SVSU equalized on a Northwood miscue. Defender Joshua Rubin's right-footed blast from about 10 yards out ricocheted off two NU defenders before trickling over the goal line.
- SVSU kept the offensive pressure on during the second half when it outshot NU 14-4.
