TIFFIN, Ohio - The SVSU Men's Soccer team, ranked No. 13 in the nation, battled to a 2-2 draw with the Tiffin Dragons on Friday (Sep. 22) afternoon in Ohio.

The Cardinals got on the board early in the contest, as Matt Wilson found Connor Rutz at the 2' marker, with Rutz putting one past the goalkeeper in the top-right corner for a 1-0 SVSU lead.

The Dragons knotted the score at 1-1 at the 31' points, getting a goal on a penalty kick that found the back of the net. 

That same 1-1 count would remain entering the half.

Second half action remained tight and it wasn't until the 80' mark that Azaad Liadi broke away from the Dragon defense, using a great ball from Alberto Teatin to score and give the visitors a 2-1 edge.

Tiffin wouldn't go away, however, getting a header goal off a free kick with under five minutes to play and tying the score at 2-2.

Offense was limited in the 20 extra minutes, with the Cardinals getting off just two more shots and the Dragons posting four shots in the overtime sessions. The 2-2 tie would prove to be the final.

"I feel like we started off on the front foot today at Tiffin, which is what we set out to do. However, the early goal maybe gave us a false sense of security because we didn't really try hard enough to build on that lead and make it hard for them to come back into the game. Unfortunately for us they got a PK and found their way back into it. Late in the game, I thought we had managed to seal the win with an excellent goal from AZ but we just couldn't hold on for the three points when we conceded a late free kick goal. Overall, a point was probably a fair result because Tiffin fought hard all day and made it hard for us to play our regular game. These are games that our young team will gain valuable experience from and learn from any mistakes that have been made. Off to an in-form Purdue Northwest now for a very tough road game on Sunday."
