MARQUETTE -- Opening GLIAC play for the 2017 campaign, the No. 16 SVSU Men's Soccer team traveled to Marquette to face the Northern Michigan University Wildcats on Friday (Sep. 15) afternoon. The Cardinals came away with a solid victory to open league play, collecting their second shutout of the season in a 3-0 victory.
Connor Rutz got the Cards on the board first, giving the visitors the 1-0 lead at the 8' marker off a Matt Wilson feed.
Omar Sinclair got in on the scoring action as well, pushing the lead out to 2-0 with his first career goal at SVSU. It marks Rutz's first goal in an SVSU uniform.
That same 2-0 edge carried into the halftime break. SVSU
The second half saw Michael Hamilton get into the scoring action. Hamilton found the back of the net at the 80' mark. He used a feed from Chris Jacovou for the score to make it 3-0.
Hamilton's goal finished the offense for the game, with SVSUs coming away with the win.
