SAGINAW, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University men's golf program kicked off the Fall with their Al Watrous Invitational at the Sawmill Golf Club in Saginaw, Michigan on Saturday and Sunday. The Cardinals A team placed third of 14 teams and the B team placed 10th with Jiseung Choi tying for third overall out of 75 players.
Team A shot 583 through two rounds and consisted of Choi, Shea Harmeson, Joey Per, Thomas Keyte, and Ethan Swenson. Choi shot one under over two rounds with a 70 and a 73 for a total of 143. He tallied seven birdies and one of the six eagles shot on the weekend. Harmeson followed with a 72 and 73 with six birdies to finish one over. Per started day one with a 78 before shooting the best of the Cardinals on Sunday with a 70 to finish four over. Keyte had rounds of 78 and 72 for a total of 150. Swenson rounded out the team with a 75 and a 77 for a total of 152.
Team B shot 613 over the weekend and was made up of Ben Yono, Tony Spicuzza, Evan Klein, Michael Zanoni, and Nicholas Taylor. Yono led the team shooting five over with rounds of 76 and 73 while sinking six birdies. Spicuzza had a total of 153 with rounds of 75 and 78. Klein shot 10 over with rounds of 78 and 76. Zanoni sunk five birdies as well through two rounds scoring 78 and 79 for a total of 157 while Taylor rounded out the team with an 88 and a 79 for a total of 167.
SVSU had two individuals as well. Dominic De Laura shot nine over with a total of 153 as he had rounds of 75 and 78 with five birdies. Carson Lloyd rounded out the Cardinals with rounds of 84 and 77 for a total of 161 on the weekend.
Up Next: Saginaw Valley men's golf heads to Plymouth, Michigan next week to compete in the Hillsdale College Fall Invitational at The Cardinal at St. Johns. The tournament will take place on Monday, September 16 and Tuesday, September 17.
