Four Cardinal Golfers Make All-GLIAC Teams

UNIVERSITY CENTER, MICH. – Four Saginaw Valley State University golfers were named to the All-GLIAC teams when the yearly awards were announced by the league office on Wednesday. Shea Harmeson made the second-team All-GLIAC team on the men's side. Brook Herbstreit was the same on the women's. Remy Stalcup and Megan Thiravong were on the honorable mention list.

Harmeson had a great season shooting under 70 four times this season including his season low of 66 at the Bulldog Classic, an event he won as an individual. He also shot a 67 at the Findlay Spring Invite and a 68 in the Sea Trial Intercollegiate in North Carolina and a 69 at the FIndianapolis Intercollegiate tournament.

"Shea was a solid player for us this year," said head coach Mike Masten. "He won at Ferris in the fall and continued to play well throughout the season. He had an average of 74 and had 2 top 3 finishes. We look forward to him continuing his success next season."

Herbstreit was the only SVSU golfer to qualify for the NCAA Division II Championships where she competed in the East Regional in Indianapolis, Indiana. She entered the tournament ranked #38 in the region. She holds a 576-178-15 record against NCAA Division II opponents and is maintaining an average of 78 on the season. Herbstreit's career-best finish came at the GLIAC Conference Championships last month where she finished fifth.

"Brook had a fantastic season. We could count on her to lead us in scoring every tournament. She will be a force in the GLIAC for her senior season after coming off an eighth-place finish at Regionals this past week," said Masten.

Stalcup hit a season low of 69 at the Tiffen Invitational. He shot 70 three times at the FIndianapolis Intercollegiate. He shot that same score twice at the Doc Spragg Invitational at Findlay.

"As a freshman, Remy was a scoring leader and was a great teammate," lauded Masten. "It is no surprise that he has post-season awards."

Thiravong recorded a season-low of 74 at the GLIAC Championships and the FIndianapolis Intercollegiate.

"Megan has grit and determination. She will get the job done no matter the obstacle. She had a really good year, and we expect big things from her next season," said Masten.
