Men's Golf Season Comes to Close with Seventh Place GLIAC Finish

AUGUSTA, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University men's golf team finished play for the 2022-2023 season on Friday, April 14. The Cardinals fell just short of the match play after finishing the GLIAC conference stroke play championships in seventh place overall.

SVSU shot rounds of 283 (-1) and 294 (+5) to finish in seventh place overall. The Cardinals were just four shots outside of the four-team cut line. Grand Valley State, Wayne State, Ferris State and Purdue-Northwest will compete in the match play this weekend to crown a conference champion.

Jiesung Choi led the way for SVSU firing off rounds of 70(-1) and 73 (+2) for a 143 in the event. Choi finished T14 in the field after getting off to a hot start in the first round making four birdies in his first ten holes. Nick Bailey and Ethan Swenson tied Choi in the first-round scoring by also shooting 71. Bailey shot three-over (74) in the second round while Swenson shot 76 (+5). Brendon Gouin shot rounds of 73, 71 through his two rounds and was the only Cardinal to shoot at least even par in the final round.
