Pumford Takes Title at 2018 NMU Match Play Invitational

MARQUETTE -- Saginaw Valley State University senior Men's Golf student-athlete Dustin Pumford claimed the individual title at the 2018 Northern Michigan University Match Play Invitational. 

Pumford, as senior from St. Charles, went a perfect 6-0 on the weekend to secure the top spot in the event played at the Greywalls Course of the Marquette Golf Club. 

The Cardinals finished in a tie for third place overall with 30 points, as the team picked up 15 points each day to reach that total. SVSU was just a half point shy of second place Ferris State and a single point shy of team champion, Wayne State. 

Several other SV players performed well on the weekend, as the team posted a combined record of 29-13. 

Gunnar Stein finished his weekend with a 5-1 overall mark, putting together some stellar play. Will Sattler, Alex Dice, Nicklaus Bailey and Jared Lyons all recorded 4-2 marks on the weekend as well. Steven Kish competed for the Cardinals, finishing with a 2-4 record in Marquette.

Saginaw Valley continues play this upcoming weekend, traveling to play at the Ferris State Invitational. The event runs Saturday through Sunday at the Katke Golf Course in Big Rapids, Michigan.
