Cardinals Cruise to Third-Straight Win

MIDLAND, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University men's basketball team cruised to a 95-69 win over Northwood for the third-straight win this season. The Cardinals (3-2) extended the current winning streak over the Timberwolves to seven straight and the 700th win in program history.

Freddie McIntosh led SVSU with a season-high 25 points in the game. Elijah Mattingly recorded a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Toodles Seal finished with 17 points, and Bryson Huckeby scored 15 off the bench. Richmond Mawutor had a game-high 11 rebounds, the second time this season the London, Great Britain product has recorded double-digit boards.

Three layups by the Cardinals built a 6-0 run to start the game. McIntosh hits a three and Seal recorded four more to compile a 7-0 run that put SVSU up 15-6 with 13:13 left in the first half. Mattingly hit a three and McIntosh scored a jumper to push the advantage to 20-9 in the opening eight minutes and the Cardinals never looked back on the way to the victory. Triston Nichols made a three-point jumper to extend the margin to 14 points with just over 5:30 left in the half. Northwood battled back to trim the SVSU lead to 38-33 in the final 90 seconds. Huckeby scored the final five points of the half to push the lead back to double digits with a 45-34 advantage at the half.

A 10-2 run in the first four minutes of the second half moved the Cardinal lead to 20 points (56-36). McIntosh gave SVSU its largest lead with a three-point jumper at the 7:43 mark to put the score at 85-46 and the deficit remained in double-digits for the rest of regulation.

Saginaw Valley shot 52.3% from the floor in the game, the second-best shooting performance of the season. The Cardinals also made 18-of-21 free throw attempts for a season-high, 85.7% from the charity stripe.

UP NEXT: SVSU will take the remainder of the week off and return to action on Thursday, December 5, with a GLIAC home opener against Grand Valley State at 7:30 p.m. (ET).
