Kevonne Taylor Named GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – Saginaw Valley State University sophomore forward Kevonne Taylor was named the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) men's basketball defensive player of the week after a stellar end to the 2023 calendar year last week.

The six foot, ten inch forward was a menace down low on defense as he tied a career-high in blocks with seven in the Cardinals' win over McMaster. He tops the GLIAC with his season total of 20 blocks. In the 91-75 win over the Marauders, Taylor finished four rebounds and three blocks short of a triple-double.

Taylor adds the GLIAC men's basketball defensive player of the week honor to his career accomplishments for the first time since joining the Cardinal men's hoops team. It is the first conference Player of the Week award for SVSU this season after the Cardinals have gotten off to an 8-3 start through the first two months of the season.

Taylor will lead SVSU against Parkside on Thursday night for the first GLIAC home game for the Cardinals. The opening tip is set for 8:00 p.m.
