Men’s Basketball Alumni Weekend takes place Saturday, January 21

Saginaw Valley State University Head Coach Randy Baruth invites all men's basketball alumni to the annual "Alumni Weekend" Saturday, Jan. 21. The Cardinals will host Lake Superior State University; tip-off is at 3 p.m. in the James E. O'Neill Jr. Arena.

Alumni who plan to attend should RSVP by Friday, Jan. 20 to reserve complimentary tickets to the game. RSVP by calling/texting Coach Tommy Twardecki at 586-744-5045, or emailing ttwardec@svsu.edu

At halftime of the men's game, all alumni in attendance will be introduced to the fans at center court. Following the conclusion of the game, alumni and their families are invited to a social gathering in O'Neill Arena. Food for the post-game social event will be provided by G's Pizzeria.

The 2022-2023 Cardinals are presently 8-7 overall and 3-2 in the GLIAC. This season's team is averaging 72.9 points per contest on 45.5% shooting with a squad that has only one senior on the roster. The Cardinals are led in scoring by junior guard Tre Garrett (15.1 ppg); also with double-digit scoring averages are sophomore guard Freddie McIntosh (14.5 ppg) and junior shooting guard Jiovanni Miles (10.1 ppg). Redshirt freshman center Kevonne Taylor is averaging 1.9 blocks per game (leads GLIAC) while making 69% of his field goal attempts. Garrett is SVSU's leading rebounder at 6.0 rpg (fifth in GLIAC), while newcomer Chansey Willis Jr is the team's assist leader with 4.3 ast/g (tied for third in GLIAC)

"We hope to see a large turn-out of former players at our annual Alumni Weekend celebration," Coach Baruth said. "We think it's important that alumni come back to see as many games as possible and feel the pride of being part of the program as they reminisce with their brothers. We are proud to welcome our alumni and we want them to know we appreciate their work and sacrifice that helped build the foundation of the program as we know it today."
