UNIVERSITY CENTER – Detroit native Steven Parham has joined the SVSU men's basketball program as an assistant coach for the 2020-2021 season.

Parham served as a graduate assistant coach during the 2019-2020 season at Lindenwood University (St. Charles, Missouri). His duties included scouting opponents, supervising the scout team in practices, and assisting with recruiting.

In addition, Parham coached the freshman team for one season in 2015-2016 at Beal City High School in Mt. Pleasant. He has sharpened his coaching skill sets as a personal trainer for players in The Family, a Detroit AAU squad, and at Detroit Country Day School from 2016-2019.

Parham earned a bachelor's degree in sport management/athletic coaching from Central Michigan University. He is a member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc.

"Coach Parham has the skills and experience to make an immediate impact in our program," said SVSU head coach Randy Baruth, who in 2019-2020 completed his 8th season at SVSU. "He has a great ability to develop relationships and will only grow more and more each day as he gains more experience. Our program is extremely fortunate to have Steve helping lead our student-athletes!"

SVSU men's basketball posted an overall record of 16-13 in 2019-2020, which included a mark of 10-10 in league action. The 6-win increase from the previous season is the 5th largest jump in the program's history.
