Brent Bassham joins the Cardinal football coaching staff as the Assistant Head Coach / Co-Offensive Coordinator / Tight Ends. Bassham was announced by Head Coach Ryan Brady as a member of the staff in February 2025.

"I am thrilled to announce the addition of Brent Bassham to the staff at SVSU," said Coach Brady. "We're excited for Brent and his family to move back to the Great Lakes Bay Region Area and help bring a Championship to Saginaw Valley State University."

Bassham joins SVSU after spending the last 10 years at NCAA Division I FCS Colgate University, where he served as both a position coach and offensive coordinator. The Colgate Raiders offense under Bassham's leadership boasted two of the top receivers as well as three of the top 11 rushers in the league in 2024. The team ranked fifth nationally in tackles for loss allowed and was top 40 in both red-zone efficiency (36th) and yards per rush (38th).

Throughout his coaching career, Bassham has nurtured 39 all-conference players, 34 conference players of the week, and one conference Rookie of the Year. He also guided the team to three conference championships and three bowl game appearances, with 16 players advancing to the National Football League (NFL).

"Coach Bash is very detailed, precise, and smart. He is a very good teacher and a natural leader.  He's got the ability to explain concepts in a simple manner that the players can understand and execute," said Brady.

Before Colgate, Bassham was a member of the Syracuse coaching staff for defense quality control—secondary. He was also the assistant head coach and offensive coordinator at Concordia Ann Arbor in 2012, the offensive coordinator at Lansing Eastern High School in 2011, and a defensive graduate assistant at Western Michigan University from 2009 to 2010.

Bassham returns to Michigan, where he was a standout quarterback for Chesaning High School. There, he led the team to a State Title in 2001. Head Coach Ryan Brady also played at Chesaning and helped lead the Indians to a State Championship in 1998.

"I'm very excited and thankful to be coming home to Michigan," said Coach Bassham. "I have known Coach Brady for years and he does a great job, so getting a chance to work with him is a great opportunity that I am very thankful for."
