Football Completes Spring Game

Football Completes Spring Game

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University football team hosted the 2025 Spring Game on Friday night inside the SVSU Fieldhouse. The Cardinals had the traditional Red (offense) versus Blue (defense) setup in the game.

Gavin Noonan got things going for the offense with a 30-yard run that setup a 34-yard field goal attempt that saw all three Cardinal kickers (Brett Mueller, Rodrigo Castaneda, and Max Taylor) make an attempt, and complete, a kick from that spot to put the offense up 12-0 with the spring game scoring format.

Braden Hill scored the first touchdown of the spring game with a touchdown run in a jet sweep inside the 10-yard line.

Bobby Hoth added another touchdown in the second half with a 50-yard rush to add six more points to the board for the Red team.

The SVSU defense made four three-and-outs for 20 points, along with an interception that gave the Blue team six more points.

Mueller, Castaneda, and Max Taylor were all a perfect 3-for-3 in kick attempts with the one field goal and two extra point tries.

The Cardinal football team kicks off the 2025 season inside Harvey Randall Wickes Memorial Stadium on Thursday, August 28, against Northeastern State at 6:00 p.m. (ET). The 50th season for SVSU will feature seven home games for the first time since 1977.

The home schedule features games against non-conference opponents, Northeastern State, Gannon, and Northwood, and GLIAC rivals Northern Michigan, Roosevelt, Wayne State, and Ferris State. Throughout the 2025 campaign, SVSU Athletics will celebrate the first 50 seasons of Cardinal football, including a special recognition of the first varsity team from 1975 for the home opener against Northeastern State on August 28th.
