Cardinals face test to open GLIAC at No. 2 Bulldogs
UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. The Saginaw Valley State University football team will look to get back in the win column on Saturday, but to do so, the Cardinals (1-1, 0-0 GLIAC) will have to take down the second-ranked team in the nation and the preseason pick to win the conference as SVSU travels to Ferris State University (2-0, 0-0 GLIAC) to open the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference season.

SVSU suffered its first loss of the 2021 season at No. 25 Bowie State University last weekend. The Cardinals jumped out in front 10-0 after Victor Abraham, the Meijer Player of the Game, jumped on a loose fumble in the endzone for a defensive touchdown. Bowie State rallied with 14-unanswered points, but the Cardinals took a third-quarter 17-14 lead with a Casey Williams 40-yard touchdown reception. Bowie State took control in the fourth quarter and held on for the 28-19 win.

Ferris State posted a decisive 45-19 road win over Ashland University on the road last weekend, improving to 2-0 on the year. FSU quarterback Jared Bernhardt continued his impressive early-season play with a game-high 210 yards rushing on 14 carries, which included two touchdowns. He also completed eight-of-10 passes for 86 yards in the win.

In the last meeting between SVSU and FSU in 2019, the Bulldogs cruised to a 34-10 victory after taking control in the second quarter. Ferris State has won six straight meetings with the Cardinals last topping the Bulldogs in 2013.
