UNIVERSITY CENTER - The Saginaw Valley State University football team fell at home in the Cardinals' season finale to the Grand Valley State University Lakers on Saturday afternoon (11/15) by a score of 21-3.

The Cardinals got on the board first, putting together an eight play, 74 yard opening drive that was capped-off by a 32-yard Scott Stanford field goal to make the score 3-0 at the 11:04 mark in the first quarter.

Grand Valley put up seven points in the opening quarter as well, using a one-yard Chris Robinson rushing TD to take a 7-3 lead at the 5:28 marker of the quarter.

The 7-3 score would hold true heading into the halftime break and would remain until the Lakers added another TD with 4:18 left in the third quarter on a seven-yard pass hook-up from Heath Parling to Jamie Potts.  That made the score 14-3.

GVSU added another score with 7:14 left in the contest to extend its lead to 21-3.  

The Cardinals offense couldn't put any other points up on the board, as Grand Valley would close out for the 18 point victory, 21-3.

The loss ended SVSU's season with a 2-9 overall record and 2-8 mark in the GLIAC while the Lakers finish at 6-5 overall and 6-4 in league play.

It was a game where both offenses struggled to get much going, as the Lakers had 287 yards of total offense and SVSU had 182, with the teams going a combined 8-of-26 on third down.

SVSU wide receiver Bryan Fobbs had five catches for 46 yards to lead offensively while Max Corcoran had three grabs and 43 yards.

Senior safety Caleb Higbie had 10 tackles in his final game in a Cardinal uniform, earning Meijer "Player of the Game" honors.  Fellow senior Noah Sumpter added nine stop to the SVSU effort and redshirt freshman Bryan Jones had seven.

Saginaw Valley graduates 12 seniors from the Class of 2014, all of which were honored prior to Saturday afternoon's game.  The class registered three-straight GLIAC North Division Championships (2011, 12, 13) and qualified for a pair of NCAA Division II Playoff berths in 2011 and 2013.
