MIDLAND, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University baseball team traveled to Northwood on Tuesday afternoon. The Cardinals (19-11) fell to the Timberwolves (22-10) by a final score of 11-5. SVSU fell behind early, as Northwood put up eight runs in the first inning and never looked back.

Ethan Scheib and Mitchell Walters both reached base three times in the game. Scheib went 2-for-4 with a double and a walk, while Walters drew three walks. The Cardinals worked deep into counts throughout the game, drawing a total of nine walks on the day.

Will Juday (L, 0-2) got the start and, after an arduous first inning, settled in to throw two scoreless frames. He finished with three innings pitched, allowing eight runs—four earned—on seven hits and four walks, while striking out one.

Northwood's eight-run first inning came on six hits, two walks, and one SVSU error. Daniel Wilcome took over in the fourth, pitching two innings and allowing two runs—one earned. The Cardinals broke the shutout in the fifth when Brendan Conkle was hit by a pitch, followed by walks to Walters and Ryan Jarvis to load the bases. Austin Cicerone singled home Conkle, and Lucas Mead drew a walk to bring in Walters, making it 9-2 Northwood.

Ben Kochany tossed a perfect sixth inning before Drew Cooper and Jacob Bardwell combined for a scoreless seventh. Cooper retired both batters he faced, while Bardwell walked one and hit another before escaping the jam. Jordan Lewis pitched the eighth, allowing one run on one walk and striking out two.

SVSU mounted a rally in the ninth, plating three runs. Walters and Scheib walked, and Ethan Rose was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Steve Getts worked a walk to drive in Walters. A ground ball double play and a wild pitch allowed Scheib and Rose to score, cutting the deficit to 11-5, before a strikeout ended the game.
