UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – Saginaw Valley State University baseball sophomore outfielder Lucas Mead was named Player of the Week by the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletics Conference (GLIAC) on Monday.
Mead had an impressive performance in a four-game series against Roosevelt, going 11-for-19 at the plate. He led the Cardinals with two doubles and two home runs, while scoring eight runs, driving in eight RBI, and drawing three walks. With a .579 batting average over the weekend, Mead has raised his season average to .486, the highest in the GLIAC.
His three walks contributed to a .636 on-base percentage over the series, and his four extra-base hits helped him achieve a 1.000 slugging percentage—both of which rank among the top five in NCAA Division II. On the season, Mead boasts a .602 on-base percentage and a 1.352 OPS, both leading the GLIAC, while his .750 slugging percentage ranks second, just behind the leader at .758.
This marks the second Player of the Week honor for SVSU baseball this season and the first of Mead's career.
