Cardinals Host UIndy in Midwest Super Regional This Weekend

UNIVERSITY CENTER, MICH. – The Saginaw Valley State University baseball team learned who the opponent was going to be for the NCAA Division II Baseball Midwest Super Regional that takes place on Friday and Saturday, May 24-25, when the Indianapolis Greyhounds (39-19) defeated Maryville (Mo.) 9-3 in the winner-take-all contest on Monday, May 20.

The Cardinals (41-16) punched their ticket to the Super Regional on Saturday after an 11-7 victory over Ashland at home. SVSU lost the first game to Ashland 7-3 before beating Northwood on Friday to advance to the final round on Saturday.

The Greyhounds had to fight through a rain delay on Friday and four-straight elimination games to earn the trip to Michigan to play SVSU for a spot in the 2024 NCAA DII Baseball National Championship in Cary, N.C. Indy dropped its first game of the regional on Thursday to Trevecca Nazarene 16-4 before winning 8-5 over Grand Valley State on Saturday. The Greyhounds then won 10-4 to eliminate Trevecca Sunday and force a winner-take-all contest on Sunday after beating Maryville (Mo.) 19-9 in the second game on Sunday.

Saginaw Valley State and Indianapolis haven't played one another since the 2016 season where the teams met twice in March, splitting the meeting.

The Midwest Super Regional will begin on Friday, May 24 with game one at 1 PM EST. Game two will take place Saturday, May 25 at 11 AM with game three following at 2 PM EST if necessary. The winner of the Midwest Super Regional will move on to compete in the NCAA Division II Baseball Championship in Cary N.C. beginning on June 1 through June 8.
