DETROIT, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University baseball program continued their road trip as they headed south to Detroit to face GLIAC opponent Wayne State. The Cardinals (15-7, 4-1 GLIAC) defeated the Warriors (15-7, 4-1 GLIAC) 13-10 off the back of a four-run ninth inning including a two-run home run by Jeff Reseigh.

Brady Carpenter had a 3-for-3 performance with two walks as Brandon Scheurer, Colin Cornwell, and Austin Schweiger all had two hit days. Scheurer delivered one of the two big blasts of the day with a three-run triple which was followed by Hayden Jatczak's fifth home run of the season in the sixth inning.

After two scoreless innings, the Warriors broke open the scoring with two in the bottom of the third. Two RBI doubles made it 3-0. Saginaw Valley answered in the fourth as they loaded the bases with a hit-by-pitch, walk, and a single before Ethan Rose drove home two win a single to right field. The quick response was met by three more Warrior runs in the fifth to make it 6-2. Six runs, four earned against Cardinal starter Jackson Decker who pitched five innings and allowed five his and two walks with five strikeouts.

Evan Langlois started for Wayne State and had only two runs against heading into the sixth. He finished with four runs against, all earned, after 5.1 innings pitched when the Cardinals put up seven runs in the sixth to break open the game. Rose drove another run in with a bases loaded hit-by-pitch before Connor McClennen walked to score another to make it 6-4. That's when Scheurer tripled off the bottom of the center field wall to clear the bases and give SVSU the 7-6 lead. Jatczak blasted his two-run home run four pitches later to make it 9-6.

Nick Bastian took over in the sixth and went 0.1 innings when he allowed three runs with two walks and a strikeout. Matt Montroy took over and recorded one out and allowed one run to make it 10-9 Wayne State before Brandon Scheurer (W, 1-0) moved from his second base position to the mound. Schuerer pitched 2.1 innings of scoreless baseball as he allowed no hits, two walks, and struck out four batters.

In the ninth down one, SVSU got a base runner with Carpenter's third single of the game. After a sacrifice bunt to move him into scoring position, Reseigh drove a pitch the other way and over the wall for his second home run of the season and gave the Cardinals an 11-10 lead. McClennen followed with a double and after a line out, Jatczak was intentionally walked before Col. Cornwell doubled to left center to score two more and make it 13-10.

Reed Raymond (Sv, 1) joined the two-way player party moving from left field to the mound and after a hit and a walk, got the final three outs to close out the game. With his first save of the year, Raymond now has 10 for his career to time himself with three others for third overall in program history.
