Four Cardinals earn All-GLIAC honors for SVSU Baseball

TRAVERSE CITY -- There were four Saginaw Valley State University Baseball student-athletes who earned All-GLIAC honors for the 2019 season, as the league announced the honors in conjunction with the annual awards banquet on Wednesday night.

Senior outfielder Craig Wilson and senior third baseman / right handed pitcher Jordan Swiss were both named to the All-GLIAC Second Team. Senior second baseman Derrek Clyde and senior designated hitter Adam Turner earned All-GLIAC Honorable Mention plaudits as well. 

Wilson hit .287 on the season and knocked five doubles, a triple and 27 RBI for the Cardinals. He had an on-base percentage of .388 , scoring 33 runs, walking 13 times and stealing nine bases on the season. 

Swiss, who became the program's all-time hits leader this past weekend at Wayne State, was second on the team with a .320 batting average. He led the team and was 6th in the GLIAC in doubles, adding four triples, 40 runs scored, a home run and 34 RBI. Swiss had 21 stolen bases, which led the GLIAC

Clyde had on on-base percentage of .472 to lead the squad and had a team-best .321 batting average. He had 52 hits, five doubles, three triples and 29 RBI. His 44 walks led the team and the GLIAC as well. He stole 12 bases for the Cards in his 46 games played. 

Turner hit a career-high .294 this season, belting five home runs with six doubles and 33 RBI. He walked 18 times and had an on-base percentage of .427 and slugging mark of .471. He scored 26 runs in his 41 games played. 

The Cardinals will participated in their first GLIAC Tournament since the 2014 season, facing #1 Ashland University as the #6 seed on Thursday at 2:30 p.m. You can follow the action live at svsucardinals.com on the baseball schedule page.
