CALEDONIA -- The SVSU Baseball team posted a Saturday split in road GLIAC action at Davenport University, dropping the opener by a 9-5 count before responding with a 13-9 victory in the second game.
The Cardinals are now 7-9 overall and 2-1 in GLIAC play while the Panthers are 12-6 and 1-2 in league play.
Game 1
SVSU got all five runs driven-in from Joshua Riggs, who plated the first on a sacrifice fly in the top of the 1st inning to score Derrek Clyde. Riggs would strike again in the visitor half of the 3rd, clearing the bases with a grand slam to put the Cardinals up 5-1.
Davenport went for a single run in the bottom of the 4th and collected five runs in the 5th frame, taking a 7-5 edge.
The Panthers added another pair in the 6th, eventually closing-out for the 9-5 victory.
Riggs went 1-2 with all five RBI for the Cardinals. Clyde, Adam Turner and Gerrit Eding had the other hits for SVSU, with Turner and Eding both hitting doubles. Clyde and Jordan Swiss each walked twice, with Swiss adding a run scored.
Brandon Wise (2-1) took the loss on the mound, working 4.2 innings. He struck-out two batters, walked four and allowed six runs on seven hits.
Game 2
After the score was knotted at 1-1 after two innings, the Cardinals opened up a 7-1 edge with six runs in the top of the 3rd inning.
Adam Turner was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, Riggs scored on a passed ball, Burke on an error and Austin Koin delivered a two-RBI double that pushed Turner and Craig Wilson across.
Riggs scored in the 5th, as did Wilson for two more SVSU runs. The Cardinals led 9-6 as the game moved to the 6th inning, where SV added a few more runs.
The Cards got an RBI bases-loaded walk from Jacob Mansfield that scored Swiss and Wilson scored on a wild pitch. Turner would then score the third run on another wild pitch.
The final run for SV came in the 7th when Collin Winters singled home Clyde, putting the game at a 13-6 score. The Cards were able to close-out the game with the victory despite three Panther runs in the home half of the 7th, winning 13-9.
Kyle Henigan moved to 2-1 on the season with the win pitching, working 4.0 innings. He allowed two runs on five hits. Chase Gearing worked 1.1 innings of scoreless pitching.
Turner had two hits and a pair of walks, an RBI and two runs scored. Koin drove-in two runs with his double. Clyde had a triple and scored three runs in the contest. Winters, Mansfield and Burke added the other RBI for SVSU.

The teams return to action on Sunday for a single, nine-inning game. First pitch is set for noon at Davenport.
