Cardinals strike early but fall at McKendree, 5-3

EDWARDSVILLLE, Ill. -- The Cardinal Baseball team began another weekend road series on Friday, taking on McKendree in Illinois. After striking for three early runs, SVSU couldn't overcome a Bearcat push and fell by a 5-3 final score.

Saginaw Valley took a 3-0 lead in the top of the 2nd inning, using a two-RBI double from Derrek Clyde that scored Gerrit Eding and Jacob Mansfield. Clyde would later score on a wild pitch for the third run.

In the bottom of the 4th, the Bearcats scored a single run and they would add another three runs in the 5th to take the 4-3 edge. The home team would tack-on another in the 7th, pushing the lead to 5-3.

That would prove to be the final score, as McKendree closed-out for the win.

Clyde finished 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored. Jordan Swiss added a double while Collin Winters, Eding and Mansfield had hits as well.

Camden Dice (0-2) got the start and took the loss on the hill after working 4.0 innings, allowing four runs (2 earned) on three hits. He walked four and had five strikeouts. Jacob Crossan worked the final 4.0 innings, allowing a single run on four hits with a walk and three strikeouts.
