UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University men's and women's track and field teams competed in day one of the 2011 GLIAC Indoor Championships on Friday (2/25).

On the men's side, sophomore Tyler Grob (Pinckney, Mich./Pinckney HS) took first place in the heptathlon shot put with a distance of 12.79 meters and third in the 60-meter dash with a final time of 7.30. Senior Aaron Wilkins (Schoolcraft, Mich./Schoolcraft HS) had a third place finish in the heptathlon long jump with a distance of 6.09 meters.  Senior Cortland Seaver (Freeland, Mich./Freeland HS) took sixth place in the 5,000 meter run with a final time of 15:01.14.

The women's team competed well on the evening as junior Elizabeth Willford (Gladwin, Mich./Gladwin HS) placed fourth in the pole vault with a height of 3.66 meters.  The distance medley team consisting of Alicia Wright (Macomb, Mich./Lutheran North HS), Dana Stolicker (Deckerville, Mich./Deckerville HS), Ashley Meyer (Shepherd, Mich./Shepherd HS) and Angela Brooks (Ortonville, Mich./Brandon HS) set a new school record with a NCAA Division II qualifying time 12:13.43.  Junior Megan Pittoors (Macomb, Mich./Dakota HS) finished eighth overall in the 5,000 meter run with a time of 18:08.79. 

The women's team sits in fourth place after one day of events while the men's squad is in seventh.  Events will begin at 8:00 AM tomorrow morning (2/26).
