NEW ORLEANS, La. - The Saginaw Valley State University mens and womens track and field teams had three athletes selected to the United State Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic Team for the 2008-09 season. Steven Genther (Laingsburg, Mich.) was selected on the mens side, while Maggie Stalker (Oscoda, Mich.) and Leighann Dowell (Millington, Mich.) recieved honors on the womens side.
EUGENE, Ore. - The Saginaw Valley State University mens track and field team was represented at the 2009 USATF Junior Nationals by freshman Nick Ekel (Elsie, Mich. / Ovid Elsie HS) who finished in third place with a time of 31:36.16 in the 10,000 meter run, beating his previous best by 28 seconds. Ekels third place finish was the best finish ever for anyone from Saginaw Valley.
