ALLENDALE, Mich. – The Cardinals of
Saginaw Valley State University competed in today’s (Feb. 14)
Big Meet at Grand Valley State University.
On the men’s side, junior Scott Chevalir (Ann Arbor, Mich. /
Dexter) placed second in the 60 meter dash with a time of 7.04.
Freshman Josh Arnold (Clio, Mich.) finished in fifth place in the
400 meter dash at 50.42. The Cardinals had a good showing in the
one mile run with two members in the top four; junior Ben Richards
(Goodrich, Mich.) placed third with a time of 4:14.63 and junior
Derek Stone (Metamora, Mich. / Lapeer East) with a time of
4:15.07.
Senior Sam Tilmon (Romulus, Mich.) placed third in the 60 meter
hurdles with a time of 8:18. Saginaw Valley had a fifth place
finish in the 800 meter run with junior Tony Filipek (Caro Mich. /
Kingston) finishing with a time of 50.42. Senior Eltaro Hooper
(Ypsilanti, Mich. / Lincoln) placed third in the high jump
finishing with a distance of 2.02 meters while senior Sean Egan
(Marysville, Mich.) finished fourth with a distance of 16.19.
For the women, senior Leighann Dowell (Millington, Mich.) finished
fifth in the 60 meter hurdle finals with a time of 8.98. Sophomore
Sjonne Mitchell (Clarkston, Mich. / Troy) placed tenth in the 400
meter dash with a time of 59.27 and fifteenth in the 200 meter dash
with a final time of 26.36.
The Cardinals are back in action on Feb. 20 when they travel to
Mt. Pleasant for the Central Michigan University Open.
