UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association selected SVSU senior CarLee Stimpfel as the NCAA DII Men's Cross Country Nationals Athlete of the Week, it was announced Monday. 

Stimpfel also earned Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Athlete of the Week honors. 

The Cass City, Mich., native ran away from the rest of the field to capture the individual crown at the Lewis Conference Crossover. The senior navigated the 8k course in 23:55.1, winning by more than 37 seconds over the runner-up. This is also Stimpfel's first collegiate victory in cross country.

The award is the first for any male athlete at SVSU during the cross country season. 

The Cardinals compete next at the Northwood Collegiate Tune-Up Friday in Midland, Mich.
