SVSU Women's Cross Country Team Set to Compete in NCAA DII National Championships

SACRAMENTO -- The Saginaw Valley State University women's cross country team and the two individual male qualifiers will compete in the 2019 NCAA DII National Cross Country Championships Saturday (Nov. 23). The women will be competing in the 6k race with the gun set to go off at 1:00 p.m. (EST) and the men will compete in the 10k race with a 2:15 p.m. (EST) start.

Saginaw Valley earned their spot at the National Championships by placing second in the GLIAC and eighth at the Midwest Regional Championships which earned them the final bid to compete in Sacramento, California. This is the first time the Lady Cardinals have qualified for the National Championships as a team since 2013 when they finished 11th overall.

The two individual qualifiers for the men's team were CarLee Stimpfel and Dayton Brown, both finishing within the top-five of the Midwest Regional Championships. Stimpfel finished 26th overall last year at the NCAA Division II National Championships to earn all-american honors as a freshman while Brown posted a 52nd place finish at last year's national meet. They were catalysts in leading the Cardinals to a sixth-place national finish in 2018.
