SVSU Cross Country Earns Four USTFCCCA All-Region Honors

Four Saginaw Valley State University Cross Country student-athletes earned All-Region accolades from the USTFCCCA for their performance in the 2016 Midwest Regional Championships held last Saturday in Evansville, Ind. The men's recipients were Nate Frasier, Eddie Komph, and Joey Southgate. The trio led SVSU to a third place finish at the competition, qualifying for the NCAA DII National Championships for the first time since 2009. Allison Dorr grabbed All-Region plaudits for the women's team following a strong showing at the Midwest Regional Championships.  

Frasier was the top finisher for the Cardinals at the Midwest Regional Championships. He completed the 10K course in 12th place with a time of 30:56.70, a new personal best. The sophomore qualified for Regionals following a 16th place finish and second team All-GLIAC honors at the GLIAC Championships on Oct. 22. Frasier will compete with the SVSU men's cross country in NCAA Nationals in Saint Leo, Fla. on Nov. 19. 

Southgate earned his All-Region honors by finishing 17th at the Midwest Regional Championships last Saturday. He finished the race with a time of 31:03.86, eclipsing his personal best set at last year's Regional. Southgate grabbed Second Team All-GLIAC honors with his 12th place finish and was one of four Cardinals to grab All-GLIAC honors at the conference event. 

Komph earned All-Region Honors from the USTFCCCA following his solid senior campaign. He finished this weekend's Championship in 21st position with a time of 31:08.16. Komph also earned Second Team All-GLIAC honors on Oct. 22 and had four top-20 finishes for the Cardinals. He will travel with the men's team for NCAA DII National Championships on Nov. 19 in Saint Leo, Fla. 

Dorr was the top finisher for the Saginaw Valley State Women's team in last Saturday's race. She set a new personal best in the 6k Championship race, taking 15th place with a time of 21:16.41. The All-Region honors cap a solid 2016 Cross Country seaon for Dorr, who finished second in the Ray Helsing Bulldog Invitational and took 14th in the GLIAC Championships, earning Second Team All-GLIAC plaudits. She will represent the Cardinals along with the Men's Team at the 2016 NCAA DII National Championships next weekend.
