GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University women's cross country team finished in third place at the Michigan Intercollegiate Championships hosted by Calvin College. SVSU finished with a score of 85 which was bested only by Grand Valley State (19) and Calvin College (74).
The Lady Cardinals were paced by Emily Short (Tawas, Mich. / Tawas Area HS) who crossed the line in fourth place overall with a time of 17:38.9. Senior Lauren Hill (Flat Rock, Mich. / Flat Rock HS) also finished in the top-10 for the Cardinals, crossing the line in sixth place overall in a time of 17:50.0.
The next group of Cardinal harriers was lead by Taylor Stepanski (Alpena, Mich. / Alpena, Mich.) who finished in a time of 18:12.7, good for 20th place overall. Senior Amanda Paris (Hemlock, Mich. / Hemlock HS) would cross the line in 32nd place overall and sophomore Tori Peet (Lapeer, Mich. / Lapeer West HS) finished in 34th place overall. Paris finished with a final time of 18:45.8, while Peet crossed the line in 18:48.6.
Sophmores Chantelle Fondren (Chesaning, Mich. / Chesaning HS) and Teha Ames (Shepherd, Mich. / Shepherd HS) would round out the top-seven finishers for the Cardinals . Fondren crossed the line in 38th place with a time of 18:52.7 and Ames would finish in 18:57.6 good for 40th place overall.
Rounding out the list of Cardinal runners would be Stephanie McMall (Bay City, Mich. / Bay City Western HS), Jessica Reeves (Sanford, Mich. / Meridian HS) Rachel Cahill (Niagara Falls, Ontario / A.N. Myer High School) and Kelly Batzloff (Sterling Heights, Mich. / Utica Ford II HS). All 11 Saginaw Valley runners would finish in the top-100.
The Cardinal cross country runners will return to the course for the highly anticipated Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships on Saturday, October 20th in Midland, Mich.
