Hill Leads Lady Cardinals to First Place Finish at LCC Invitational

LANSING, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State Univerisy women's cross country team competed in the 5,000 meter Lansing Community College Invitational on Friday (Sept. 28) at Grand Woods Park. The Cardinals won the Invitational with 29 points, 45 points ahead of second place Hope College.

Senior Lauren Hill (Flat Rock, Mich. / Flat Rock HS) took home first place honors crossing the line in 18:02.8, :13 second ahead of her nearest competitor.  Sophomore Emily Short (Tawas, Mich. / Tawas Area HS) finished third overall, timing in at 18:20.9.  Sophomore Tori Peet (Lapeer, Mich. / Lapeer West HS) was the third Cardinal to cross the finish line in seventh place in an overall time of 19:11.3.  

Chantelle Fondren (Chesaning, Mich. / Chesaning HS), Amanda Paris (Hemlock, Mich. / Hemlock HS) and Stephanie McMall (Bay City, Mich. / Bay City Western HS) rounded out the Cardinals finishing in the top-20.  Fondren crossed the line in 19:22.1, while Paris clocked in at 19:31.2 and McMall in 19:39.6.

The Cardinals will return to the course on Oct. 5 when they compete in the Michigan Intercollegiate Championships in Grand Rapids, Mich.
