Saginaw Valley State Volleyball Earns USMC/AVCA Team Academic Honors

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Saginaw Valley State University volleyball team was among the record-breaking 1,332 collegiate and high school volleyball programs listed on the United States Marine Corps/American Volleyball Coaches Association Team Academic Award recipient list.

"This recognition by the AVCA helps to emphasize our program's focus on academic success and the importance of the student in student-athlete," said SVSU volleyball head coach, Will Stanton. "This award also helps to showcase our athlete's commitment to their collegiate experience beyond the volleyball court, and to the efforts they put into their class work."

The AVCA began academic awards in the 1992-93 year. The awards honor volleyball teams that maintain a grade-point average of 3.3 or better on a 4.0 scale or a 4.1 or higher on a 5.0 scale.

The Cardinal volleyball team joins six other teams from the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) on the academic awards list.

This is the 10th time SVSU volleyball has been recognized for this achievement. This year matches the longest streak in program history for consecutive years on the list at five (2019-2023). The Cardinals made the list for the first time in 2011-12 and recorded the first five-year streak through the 2015-16 year.
