Cardinal Volleyball Earns AVCA Team Academic Award

LEXINGTON, Ky. -- The Saginaw Valley State University Volleyball team earned the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award for the 2019-20 season.

The award, initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors volleyball teams that maintain a year-long grade-point average of 3.30 on a 4.0 scale or 4.10 on a 5.0 scale.

The Cardinals got it done on the court as well as in the classroom in the 2019-20 campaign, posting a 20-9 overall record while advancing to the NCAA Division II Tournament for the first time since the 2016 season.

Emily Friesl and Sarah Tabit earned All-GLIAC First Team honors, with Friesl being named the GLIAC Blocker of the Year, while Hannah Tabit was named All-GLIAC Second Team and Abbie Toland All-GLIAC Honorable Mention. Tabit and Friesl would go on to be named to the All-Midwest Region team and Tabit eventually earned All-America Honorable Mention plaudits.
