UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University volleyball team is set to compete in the 2016 NCAA Division II Midwest Regional Tournament, beginning Thursday (Dec. 1) at Ferris State University. The Cardinals enter as the No. 5 seed in the region and will face No. 4 Rockhurst Thursday in a 7:30 p.m. matchup.
It marks the second straight season that the two programs will meet in the opening round, as Rockhurst defeated Saginaw Valley in 2015 by a 3-0 score in Big Rapids en route to claiming the regional title.
The Cardinals are 19-11 overall this season and will be competing in the annual national tournament for the fifth time overall and second straight season. Saginaw Valley will be looking for its second consecutive 20-win season on Thursday against the Hawks, who enter the match with an overall mark of 27-6.
The winner of the Midwest Regional will advance to the Division II National Quarterfinals, which will be held Dec. 8-10 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Tickets for the 2016 regional tournament are on sale and will be $5 for adults and $2 for children in grades K-12 or $3 for college students of the competing teams with a valid ID card.
