SVSU Volleyball Drops 3-0 Home Contest to No. 20 Bulldogs

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University volleyball squad hosted the No. 20 Ferris State University Bulldogs on Saturday afternoon in a GLIAC North Division matchup. The Cardinals battled in the match but would fall short againt their nationally-ranked opponents.

The first set was taken by a narrow 25-23 count for the visitors, giving them a 1-0 lead. The Cardinals led throughout most of the set and all the way until the set was tied at 16-16. It bounced back and forth from there, with the Bulldogs prevailing by the slim margin.

The second frame was taken 25-20 by Ferris. The Bulldogs used a late five point run to push their lead to 24-16 and would close it out despite three straight points to being it back to 24-20 late. 

In the third set, Ferris State led early and would maintain until sealing the sweep and regular season league title with the victory.

Inside the Boxscore

  • Kennedy Marker was named the Chili's Player of the Match after hitting .375 with seven kills and a pair of blocks. 
  • Kaylee Schmitt and Andrea Brigham each added seven kills as well, with Brigham posting 11 digs.
  • Kelly Vellucci posted 28 assists in the three set contest for SVSU. 
  • The Bulldogs out-blocked SVSU by a 14-8 margin.

SVSU's regular season home schedule is now complete and the ladies head to Michigan's Upper Peninsula this upcoming weekend for a pair of GLIAC North matches. The Cardinals play at Michigan Tech Friday (Nov. 11) at 5:00 p.m. before taking on Northern Michigan on Saturday in a 4:00 p.m. tilt.
