Schmitt Earns Second GLIAC North Player of the Week Honor

BAY CITY, Mich. - Saginaw Valley State University senior volleyball student-athlete Kaylee Schmitt has been honored for the second time this season as the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) North Division Player of the Week after leading the Cardinals to a pair of GLIAC road victories.

It marks Schmitt's second honor this season from the league office, as she earned GLIAC North Player of the Week plaudits in week one as well.

Schmitt led the Cardinals to a pair of victories over the weekend, as SVSU ran its winning streak to a program best nine matches. Schmitt posted a .325 hitting percentage with 17 kills, five blocks and four digs in a 3-1 win at Hillsdale on Friday. She then hit .444 with 13 kills, four blocks and three digs and a pair of aces in Saturday's 3-1 win at Northwood. She averaged 3.75 kills/set and 1.13 blocks/set in the victories.

Saginaw Valley carries its nine match winning streak to Lake Superior State University on Tuesday (Nov. 1) for a 4:00 p.m. match. The Cards then host Grand Valley State on Friday at 7:00 p.m. and Ferris State on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. Prior the match versus Ferris, the team will honor the 2016 senior class and there will be an alumni event as well.
