UNIVERSITY CENTER - The SVSU volleyball team notched its fourth consecutive victory on Friday evening, posting a clean 3-0 sweep over the Walsh University Cavaliers at the Cardinal Gymnasium on the campus of SVSU.

The Cardinals claimed the first set by a score of 25-20, using five kills each from Tamara Heller and Kaylee Schmitt of the 17 the team had that frame to take the 1-0 lead. Brooke Tiller had six digs in the set. 

SVSU had 17 kills once again in the second game, as Schmitt added another four while Heller and Morgan Eddy each had three for the Cards to push the lead out to 2-0 after a 25-19 win. Tiller added another six digs on the defensive end.

Saginaw Valley closed the match out after another 25-19 advantage in the final set. Andrea Brigham had a big third frame, posting five kills while Emily Nieman added five digs defensively.

  • SVSU hit .258 for the match compared to a mark of .091 for the visiting Cavaliers.
  • Schmitt had a match-high 11 kills, hitting .333 while adding four digs and two blocks.
  • Heller had eight kills and eight digs for the Cards, hitting at a .389 clip.
  • Brooke Tiller led the way defensively with 13 digs while Nieman added 10 with a pair of aces.
  • Kelly Vellucci had 35 assists for the Cardinals.
  • The Cavaliers were led by Paolo Ferrario with seven kills and Kaitlin Bronikowski with a match-best 14 digs.
  • The 3-0 victory marks the sixth sweep for SVSU in 2015 and the second straight.
  • The 12-2 start to open the season matches the start of the 2008 team, which started with that same mark through 14 matches.

Tamara Heller earned the honor for the second straight match with her eight kills, eight digs and .389 hitting percentage. She added a service ace to her credit as well.
