Four SVSU Volleyball Players Earn All-GLIAC Plaudits

BAY CITY - Four Saginaw Valley State University volleyball student-athletes earned All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference honors for their play during the 2014 season for the Cardinals.  The announcement was made between the semifinals matches at the GLIAC Volleyball Tournament, currently taking place in Allendale, Michigan.

Seniors Kelsey Ferla and Makenzie Frodle were selected to the All-GLIAC First Team by the league's head coaches while sophomore Kelly Vellucci was named to the All-GLIAC Second Team and sophomore Kaylee Schmitt earned All-GLIAC Honorable Mention honors.

Frodle leads the GLIAC with a .330 hitting percentage, posting 258 kills, an average of 2.77 per set and a team-leading 80 blocks, averaging 0.86 per frame.

Ferla racked-up a team-high 295 kills in 2014, leading the GLIAC with an average of 3.64 per set.  She chipped-in with 211 digs and 45 blocks to help anchor the SV defense as well.

Vellucci earned second team honors after finishing with 992 assists, ranking her third in the league.  She averaged 10.02 per set, which was also third in league play.

Both Ferla and Vellucci were named to the All-GLIAC/GLVC Crossover Team as well earlier in the season.

Schmitt earns honorable mention honors after registering 157 kills with a .289 hitting percentage, adding 59 blocks for SVSU, which ranked her second on the team.
