Volleyball Falls at Ferris State in GLIAC North Division Action

BIG RAPIDS - Playing its second top-25 opponent in as many nights, the Saginaw Valley State University volleyball team traveled to Ferris State University on Saturday (11/8) to square-off against the 22nd-ranked Bulldogs.  FSU proved to be too stong on Saturday, posting a 3-0 victory over the Cardinals.

The Bulldogs posted victories of 25-17, 25-20 and 25-14 in the sweep, clinching a share of the GLIAC Championship in the process.

Sophomore setter Kelly Vellucci had five kills and 18 assists, adding eight digs to the defensive effort.  She was named the Chili's "Player of the Match" for her efforts. 

Seniors Makenzie Frodle and Kelsey Ferla each had six kills, with Ferla adding 11 digs.

Sophomore Kaylee Schmitt had five kills and junior libero Brooke Tiller posted a match-high 16 digs.  

With the loss, Saginaw Valley falls to 16-10 overall at the conclusion of the regular season with a 12-6 mark in the GLIAC.  The Bulldogs finish their regular season slate with a 20-5 record and 17-1 mark in league play.

The Cardinals will be the #5 seed and will travel to play #4 Northern Michigan University on Wednesday (11/12) for a Quarterfinal matchup in the 2014 GLIAC Volleyball Tournament.  The match time is still yet to be determined for the contest in Marquette.  SVSU defeated the Wildcats in five sets on November 1st in the teams' only matchup of the 2014 campaign.
