UNIVERSITY CENTER - Coming on the heels of a 3-0 victory over Lake Superior State on Friday night, the Saginaw Valley State University volleyball team hosted the Northwood University Timberwolves on Saturday afternoon (10/25) with hopes of making it a weekend sweep.  The Cardinals came through in a big way, posting a 3-0 win over the T-Wolves as well to go 2-0 over Homecoming Weekend.

It was Senior Day in the Cardinal Gym for SVSU, as the program honored the team's five seniors prior to play.

SVSU trailed early in the opening set and all the way until it knotted the set at 23-23 as part of four consecutive points that closed the match with a 25-23 win for the Cards.  The home squad would take control from that point on, posting identical 25-16 victories in the second and third sets, respectively, to close-out for the GLIAC North Division win.

With the victory, Saginaw Valley improves to 13-8 overall on the season and 9-4 in the GLIAC.  The Timberwolves fall to 6-14 overall with a 3-10 mark in league play.

On a day where the team honored the seniors, the seniors surely stepped-up in Saturday's victory.  

Senior Kelsey Ferla had a match-best 15 kills to go along with seven digs.  Fellow senior Makenzie Frodle also registered double-digit kills with 11, adding two blocks to her credit.  Senior Kate Czopek held down things defensively, posting a match-high 12 digs for the Cards.

Sophomore Kaylee Schmitt had another huge game as well for SVSU, hitting .533 with nine kills on 15 attempts, adding two blocks defensively to earn Chili's "Player of the Match" plaudits.

Junior Brooke Tiller added 10 digs for the Cards while freshman Tamara Heller chipped-in with nine.

Sophomore setter Kelly Vellucci had 36 assists and six digs for Saginaw Valley.

The Cardinals return to action on Tuesday (10/28) in their final regular season home contest against the Wayne State Warriors.  The match is set to begin at 7:00 pm.  SVSU claimed the earlier meeting between the two teams, a 3-1 decision on September 23rd in Detroit.
