Volleyball Finishes Weekend Sweep With 3-1 Win Over Panthers

UNIVERSITY CENTER - The Saginaw Valley State University volleyball team picked up its second Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) win of the weekend Saturday afternoon (9/20) with a 3-1 victory over Ohio Dominican University.

The Panthers took the lead after a 25-21 victory in the first set.

Saginaw Valley fought back for the next three games to eventually close-out for the 3-1 victory. The second and thirds sets were close, with the Cardinals edging out their opponent 25-19 and 25-21, respectively. The fourth and final set of the match left Saginaw Valley with a 25-13 victory over the Panthers to close things out.

Senior Makenzie Frodle was named Chili's "Player of the Match", after hitting a team-best .464 and adding 15 kills for the Cardinals. She had two blocks and an ace to help the effort.

Sophomore Kelly Vellucci had a team-high 15 digs and 43 assists while Sidney Scott had 10 kills and two blocks for the match as well. Kaylee Schmitt added 13 kills for the Cardinals offensively.

With the win, the Cardinals improve to 5-3 overall and 2-2 in the conference while the Panthers fall to 5-5 overall and 3-1 in the GLIAC. Saginaw Valley will return to play Tuesday (9/23) at Wayne State University for a GLIAC match set to begin at 7:00 PM.
