Cardinals Take GLIAC Match From Dragons, 3-1

UNIVERSITY CENTER - The Saginaw Valley State University volleyball team began their weekend at home with a 3-1 victory over the Dragons of Tiffin University tonight (9/19) in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) match. 

Saginaw Valley came out taking a 2-0 lead from Tiffin, winning the first two sets by scores of 25-20 and 25-21, respectively.  The Dragons responded in the third game, picking up a close set 25-23.  The Cardinals bounced back to take the fourth and final frame of the night 25-18 as well as the match, 3-1.

Junior Morgan Eddy was named Chilli's "Player of the Match", finishing the night with eight kills and a team-high .316 hitting percentage.  Eddy also added a team-high six blocks for the night as well as one ace.

Freshman Sidney Scott added a team-high 16 kills for the Cardinals alongside teammate Kaylee Schmitt who posted 11 kills and eight blocks on the night.  Brooke Tiller took a majority of the digs for Saginaw Valley with a total of 19 while Kelly Vellucci added 45 assists as well as 10 digs in the contest.  

With the win, the Cardinals improve to 4-3 overall and 1-2 in the conference while the Dragons fall to 4-2 overall and 2-1 in the GLIAC.  Saginaw Valley will return to play tomorrow (9/20) for a home GLIAC match set to begin at 2:00 PM against Ohio Dominican University.
