Volleyball Drops Three Close Sets At Northern Michigan

MARQUETTE, Mich. - The Cardinal volleyball team began its two-match weekend road trip through Michigan's Upper Peninsula with a contest at Northern Michigan.  SVSU dropped three close sets to the Wildcats, falling in straight-sets with scores of 27-25, 25-22, 27-25.

Junior Ashley Driscoll (Bellevue, Mich./Pennfield HS) garnered Chili's "Player of the Match" honors on the night, leading the way offensively for the Cardinals.  Driscoll posted a team-high 11 kills while hitting at a .391 clip.  She added two digs and a pair of blocks as well.

Fellow junior Kelsey Ferla (Lincoln Park, Mich./Gabriel Richard HS) also reached double-digit figures in kills, adding 10 on the night, hitting .435 on 23 total attacks.

Sophomore Brooke Tiller (Maumee, Ohio/Maumee HS) had a match-high 14 digs for the Cards while holding up the defensive end.

Redshirt freshman Kelly Vellucci (Livonia, Mich./Stevenson HS) had 19 assists and four digs while senior Nicole Adam (Sterling Heights, Mich./Sterling Heights HS) posted 15 helpers and seven digs.

The loss drops Saginaw Valley to 5-4 overall on the season and 0-1 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC).  The Wildcats improve to 7-3 overall and 1-0 in league play with the victory.

SVSU returns to action tomorrow (Sept. 21), as it takes on Michigan Tech University in a 4:00 pm GLIAC matchup.  The Huskies (4-6, 1-0 GLIAC) are coming-off a 3-2 victory over Lake Superior State University.
