Lady Cardinals Drop to GLIAC Leading Timberwolves, 3-0

MIDLAND, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University volleyball team fell 3-0 to Northwood University today (Oct. 27) 25-22, 25-14 and 25-12.

The Cardinals gained the early advantage leading 16-9 midway through the first set. However, Northwood responded to take the set 25-22. Saginaw Valley was unable to regain momentum after that as the Timberwolves took the next two sets for the sweep. 

The Cardinal offense was paced by Kate Czopek (Sterling Heights, Mich.) who recorded nine kills and nine digs, while Sam Breault (Bad Axe, Mich.) setup the SVSU offense with 19 assists.

Senior Laurel Mattson (Lake Odessa, Mich. / Lakewood HS) earned Chili's 'Player of the Match' honors as she posted a team-high 15 digs as Lyndsay Reynolds (Saline, Mich.) connected on six kills.

The Lady Cardinals are now 10-15 overall on the year and 5-8 in the GLIAC, while Northwood improves to 19-5 on the year and unbeaten at 13-0 atop the GLIAC standings.

Saginaw Valley will be back this Tuesday (Oct. 30) at Lake Superior State University for a 7:00 PM matchup.
