Cardinal Volleyball Drops to Chargers, 3-0

HILLSDALE, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University volleyball team fell 3-0 to Hillsdale College tonight (Oct. 26) 25-19, 25-12 and 25-7.

The Cardinals were in a battle with the Chargers as they trailed 19-18 late in the first set before Hillsdale pulled away for the 25-19 victory.

The Chargers gained momentum early in the second set as they raced to a 25-12 decision to go up 2-0 in the match. Hillsdale took hold of the third set as they swept SVSU with a 25-7 final.

The Cardinals were led on offense by Chili's 'Player of the Match' Makenzie Frodle (Fraser, Mich.) who recorded nine kills, while Sam Breault (Bad Axe, Mich.) managed the SVSU offense with 17 assists.

Senior Laurel Mattson (Lake Odessa, Mich. / Lakewood HS) posted 13 digs as Nicole Adam (Sterling Heights, Mich.) tallied 11 digs of her own.

The Lady Cardinals are now 10-14 overall on the year and 5-7 in the GLIAC, while Hillsdale improves to 14-9 on the season and 10-2 in the conference.

Saginaw Valley will be back in action tomorrow (Oct. 27) on the road when they travel to Northwood in Midland for a 4:00 PM start.
